Student Visa Refused? Important Changes To ART Reviews From 1 June 2026

If your student visa has been refused and you have lodged an appeal with the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART), there has been a major change that could affect your case.

From 1 June 2026, most student visa refusal reviews will no longer involve an oral hearing before the Tribunal.

Instead, the Tribunal will generally decide your case based entirely on the written material before it, including your submissions, supporting evidence and the Department's refusal decision.

For many students, this is one of the most significant changes to Australia's student visa review process in years.
