Moving to Australia from India
Partner visas for Indian citizens married to, or in a relationship with, an Australian, and employer sponsored visas for skilled workers with a real Australian job offer. Zest Legal is a fully online Australian law firm, so you deal with a lawyer from India, start to finish.
Partner visas
Your partner is Australian.
If your spouse or partner is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, you can apply for a partner visa from India and live in Australia permanently.
Arranged marriages
An arranged marriage is accepted for a partner visa, as long as the relationship is genuine and continuing. Home Affairs looks at how the relationship has developed since the marriage was arranged.
We build that evidence with you: your contact and visits since you met, the wedding and its records, family involvement, and your plans to live together in Australia.
Indian documents
Home Affairs usually asks for a police certificate from every country where you have lived for 12 months or more in the past 10 years, if you are over 17. It must cover the time since you turned 16 and is treated as valid for 12 months. Indian citizens apply for a police clearance certificate through Passport Seva; foreign nationals in India apply through the e-FRRO portal.
Documents not in English need certified English translations. Health examinations must be done by a Home Affairs panel physician in India.
The offshore 309/100 is lodged while you are outside Australia, and you must be outside Australia when the 309 is decided.
Employer sponsored visas
You have an Australian job offer.
An Australian employer can sponsor you for the Skills in Demand (482) visa, with a path to permanent residence through the 186. We act for the employer and for you, so the whole application is in one place.
Skills in Demand (482) from India
- Sponsored by an approved Australian business
- At least 1 year of relevant work experience
- English test: at least IELTS 5.0 or PTE 36 in each part, higher for some occupations
- Skills assessment if your occupation needs one
- Salary at least the Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) and the market rate
Before you pay anyone
- We act once you have a job offer. We do not find jobs or sponsors
- It is illegal in Australia to ask for, or pay, money in return for a sponsorship
- Visas obtained through a paid sponsorship can be cancelled
- If someone asks you to pay for a job or sponsorship, talk to us first

FAQ
Questions from clients in India.
Do I need to come to Australia to get started?
No. We act for clients in India entirely by video call, phone and email, and you upload documents online.
Is an arranged marriage accepted?
Yes. What matters is that the relationship is genuine and continuing. We show how it has developed since the marriage was arranged.
Do I need an English test for a partner visa?
No. Partner visas do not have an English test. The 482 does, unless an exemption applies.
Can you find me a job or a sponsor?
No. We are lawyers, not recruiters. Once an Australian employer has offered you a role, we handle the sponsorship, nomination and visa.
Someone is asking me to pay for a sponsorship. Is that allowed?
No. Asking for or giving a payment in return for a sponsorship is illegal under Australian migration law, and it can lead to visa cancellation. Talk to us before you pay.
Which police certificates do I need?
One from every country where you have lived for 12 months or more in the past 10 years, if you are over 17. For India, that is a police clearance certificate through Passport Seva.
Looking for a migration agent? How is a lawyer different?
Registered migration agents are licensed by the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority. Immigration lawyers hold a practising certificate, owe duties to the court and can advise on any area of law that affects your visa. Advice from a lawyer is also covered by legal professional privilege.
General information only, current at 15 October 2026. Not legal advice. Police certificates and medicals: Home Affairs services outside Australia.
